Unveiling – A portrait of Alasdair Gray.
Wednesday June 23rd 2010
Oran Mor, Byers Road, Glasgow.
Democratic Left Scotland has commissioned artist Sandy Moffat to produce a portrait of author and artist Alasdair Gray. All DLS members and Perspectives readers will be invited to attend. Oran Mor has been chosen as an appropriate ‘home’ for the portrait. This is an opportunity to take part in an important cultural moment.
By waiving his fee Sandy Moffat has bequearhed us an asset recently valued at 15.000.00 pounds. Colin Beattie at Oran Mor was similarly generous. We have been trying to persuade the Corporate Body at Holyrood that an ideal home for the painting would be the entranceway to the parliament, possibly with the sentiment Sandy expressed in waiving his fee,” For The Common Good” and Alasdair’s ”Work as though you live in the days of a better nation.” The Corporate body” is not so far receptive to the idea. The painting has iconic potential and we are giving some thought as to how its image might be promoted. All suggestions welcome.
